Error Messages using IE6

I frequently get error messages when I'm browing the web.
They involve KERNEL32.DLL or say "Explorer has caused an
error in WININET.DLL." I've tried disabling my anti-virus
program while browsing and that has helped a little bit,
but I still get the message at times. It often ends up
freezing my whole computer and I have to shut down
completely and re-boot. I am running Windows ME.

First eliminate any scumware.

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated with the program's update function
before every use, even when just downloaded. There's also a lot more to do
