Error message

A couple of weeks ago, I had an error message that did not allow me to send
email in windows...I got it cleared up and now I can send email w/attachments
without a problem. However, the error message still comes up when I go into
email and any time I click on anything. I can close the message screen but
is there any way to get rid of it completely? It is pretty annoying!!

I'm sorry, I just didn't want to write it all down...You're server has
unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes include server
problems, network problem, long period of inactivity Subject 'nothing',
Acct:'mail.comcast.net', Server'SMTP'.comcast.net' Protocol:SMTP, Port 25,
Secure(SSL) no error number )ox800ccof

You do have a sense of humor...even in the morning...It's polite to say "Good
Morning".

Yes. We often need parts of the error message you wouldn't expect to
offer much help.

Norton and other AV programs are often reponsible for that message.
Which AV program are you running?

BTW You can copy and paste many error messages.

Does your connection to that server cross over from one internet provider's
equipment to another's before it reaches the server? If so, such
connections
to port 25 are often blocked to cause trouble for spammers.

Check your settings:

These instructions were written for Outlook Express, but should also work
under Windows Mail if you avoid the One Click Fix and the instructions
don't call for the HTTP protocol. Note the change in the port number near
the bottom.

Ahhh...a little espanol...you're not in Massachusetts are you? I must
admit, I don't have a clue how to copy and paste...that is like 10 lessons
from where I am. I had uninstalled something like Trend Micro PC-cillin
(very cute name) and installed McAfee. Although it appears that there are
still traces of PC-cillin in my computer. I still get notifications and
scanning from them...but when I go into the program thing it says that it no
longer exists. I think I may have F'd up somewhere. Oh and Bob, thank you
for the Ipod info...I noticed there was a new reply but it took a while for
me to figure out where it was!!!!

Hi Robert,

At this point, I am not having trouble with sending or receiving email. I
am just trying to get rid of the error message screen. It keeps popping up
except when I am sending or opening email. It just seems to be stuck in
there.

Most versions of the McAfee and Norton antivirus programs cause
assorted problems in Windows Mail. So does a recent version of the
Trend antivirus program. These programs must be uninstalled, not
just disabled, to stop them from causing problems. McAfee and
Norton have provided cleanup programs you can download and run
to handle what the uninstall leaves behind; I haven't heard of one
from Trend.

Sometimes you even have to remove your email account under Windows
Mail, then restart Windows Mail and create the account again.

If this cures your problem, you may want a replacement antivirus program
that doesn't cause such problems. I recommend either avast! or AVG,
either one with a custom install that tells it to leave out the part that
scans
email.

There is a good chance McAfee is causing the error message.

Replace McAfee with the free AVG http://free.grisoft.com/ or Avast
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html, and Windows Firewall and Windows
Defender. Disabling McAfee is not enough. You need to completely uninstall
it. McAfee is known to cause many problems.

Re: IPod info. De nada.

No, not in Massachusetts, but lived in Connecticut for a long time, about 15
miles from Massachusetts border. Grew up <questionable?> in NYC with many
Puerto Rican friends.

Are you in Massachusetts?

Re: Trend Micro

Search your PC for it. Whatever you find, right click and delete it.

One more thing. I suggest you use Windows Mail for newsgroups instead of
discussions.microsoft.com. It's easier and more efficient once you get the
hang of it.

Bob,

Thank you for the tutorial link. I will look into it. O.k. now McAfee may
be causing my error so you rec. I dump it right? I am so afraid of screwing
it up even more because I can't get rid of Trend...I have a pop-up on my
desktop from them that won't let me close it. So I am uncertain what to do
with that...it is a registration page but I apparently don't have it in my
system anymore. And everything else Trend impregnates my computer with
doesn't give me an option to get rid of it permanently...O.k. I know this
isn't your problem but I am afraid to uninstall anything else for fear of
leaving bits and pieces. My system is going to have a Frankenstein security
system which I am afraid is leaving me open to something tragic!!!!!!!!
Also, I have no idea what a newsgroup is...clue me in?
Yes, I live in good ole Mass., born and bred...I am a true New Englander. I

New York transplant...curious...

Since they recommend a different port number, it may help you get
fewer error messages.

No worries. Use this:
***McAfee Consumer Product Removal Tool

Unfortunately there is no Trend Micro removal tool.

Did you try to right click and delete the Trend stuff?
Also, I have no idea what a newsgroup is...clue me in?

How do I configure Outlook Express to view and post to newsgroups? (The
instructions apply to Windows Mail as well)
Do not use the "One Click Fix".
