Can receive but can't send emails on Windows Mail

N

NZAV Chik

An unknown error has occurred. Subject 'good site for random camping sales',
Account: 'Rowena', Server: 'smtp.slingshot.co.nz', Protocol: SMTP, Server
Response: '421 Cannot connect to SMTP server 202.180.66.218
(202.180.66.218:25), connect error 10060', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server
Error: 421, Error Number: 0x800CCC67

This is the error message I get when I try to send emails. Up until a couple
of days ago I have been able so send emails fine but now it has stopped
working. Any idea of how I can fix this and send emails again?

Cheers

This may have been a temporary server malfunction. I had no trouble
connecting to that server on port 25. Try again.

My wife and I each have the same problem (on separate laptops) which started
yesterday 25th March - we are running Vista Business. Grateful for any
hints/tips what to do.

Forgot to post the error message I got (in case it helps):

The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'Test', Account:
'mail.crystone.net', Server: 'mail.crystone.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25,
Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Are you the same individual I responded to, "NZAV Chik"?
If not, then nothing in my recommendations to her would apply
to you.

Was crystone.net providing your Internet connection when you got
that error? If not, who was?

Looks like you are running into a port 25 block. As a general rule, the
owner of the SMTP server you are using must be the same as the entity
providing your Internet connection at that moment. For more on this issue

workarounds for you.

Thanks for the tips and link - I dug around a little after reading this and
saw buried on their website that Crystone is now advising customers to send
mail via their ISP's server (in our case another company). By changing the
port settings in line with the ISP's recommendations we cracked the problem.
Thanks again for pointing us in the right direction.

Yes, that's what I would have recommended, switching to your ISP's
SMTP server. Glad you got it working.

Account: 'lumpsam', Server: 'pop.mail.yahoo.com', Protocol: POP3, Server
Response: '-ERR popgate unknown command', Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Server
Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC18

My problem is the same one as this, can received incoming mail but when I
hit send,
i got the error shown in the above. The sent folder is empty and outbox
folder has numerous emails that areready to be send and yet they just stayed
even after I clicked send several times.

The error message you included is a receive (POP3) error, not a send error.
To make that particular receive error go away:
Go to Tools, Accounts, select that mail account, Properties, Servers.
Make sure that "Log on using Secure Password Authentication" is not enabled.

I suggest you move all the messages that are now in the Outbox folder to the
Drafts folder, then send a simple test message to yourself.

If you continue to get send errors, be sure to capture and post the error message,
making sure it includes the phrase "Protocol: SMTP".

I tried connecting to that SMTP server on port 25, and it did not accept the
connection attempt. So, the problem is at the server end, not your end.
Call Slingshot and complain to them. In the meantime you can use webmail
for sending.
