why do i get message "System file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and
Microsoft Windows applications" when trying to install a programm from a CD
which had previously loaded okay previously

IE, tools menu, Options, advanced tab, scroll down to Security area, see
checkbox to allow running active content from CD.
