If you have an XP machine nearby you can use msconfig to clean boot the machine: 310560 How to Troubleshoot By Using the Msconfig Utility in Windows XP http://support.microsoft.com/?id=310560 If not you can look for the services value in the registry for that service and disable it or use listsvc in recovery console to disable it.
