error message ox800CCC.78

This is the message I get with Outlook 2003, (Outlook Express works though)
Task 'incoming.verizon.net - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC78) : 'Unable
to send the message. Please verify the e-mail address in your account
properties. The server responded: 550 5.7.1 Authentication Required'

Do you need to authenticate with the SMTP server to send messages? Double
check your settings in OE and try to replicate them in Outlook.
