error message on welcome screen

hey,
i brought a copy of windows xp home sp2 from ebay about 30 days ago and then
activated it properly and then reformatted my drive adn added extra memory
etc onto it. Then i noticed that it would let me receive updates from the
microsoft site and so i downloaded them from 3rd party sites.

Now i recieve an error message onj the welcome screen with the choice of yes
or no but with no text in it. i have tried both and they both make the
computer work fine as far as i can tell but i am wondering if it thinks i
have an illegal copy and my trial has run out or something alike and was
wondering how to remove it so that my computer thinks i have a legal copy and
not an illegal copy (which i dont as it came sealed in a box)

It appears you may have been ripped off and given a pirated or counterfeit
copy of XP. Check out this website.

If you don't want to download the WGA software from Microsoft use the 2nd
method. If you feel you have been ripped off please make sure you give the
eBay seller appropriate feedback and also notify eBay and/or Paypal.
