error message, not connected to internet

What do I need to change on my 'puter when the icon in the toolbar shows and
tells me I am connected and the error message tells me I am not and I can
not go to web pages, get or send emails. I have to close down and restart
to get connected again. This only happens if I am on line and leave the
'puter for an hour or so. As long as I am using it I don't have a problem.
This just started about a month ago.

In IE, Tools>Internet Options>Connections.
Highlight the connection and click Settings.
In Dial-up Settings click Advanced
Check your settings under:
"Disconnect when Connection may no longer be needed".
“Disconnect if idle for ……. mins”

"Disconnect when Connection may no longer be needed".
“Disconnect if idle for ……. mins”

are NOT checked. Anything else I can try?

Your NIC or Ethernet card may going to sleep and not waking up. Open
Device Manager, open the properties of the network device, and turn off
"Let Windows turn this device off to save power.".

No NIC?.. do the same thing with the USB Controllers.
