Hello, I am new to Windows Vista. My Windows mail program was working
perfectly, now all of a sudden, when I go to send/receive mail, I get a
message box: WINDOWS SECURITY - VERIFY THAT THE USER NAME AND PASSWORD ARE
CORRECT FOR YOUR MAIL SERVER.

Can someone please tell me which password and user name I should put here?
My email address and password for my mail program? Or, my computer name and
password for my computer? I have tried BOTH and still I get this error
message.

Thank you very much for any assistance.

You need the username and password for your email account. Those
are dictated by your mail provider. If you don't know who that is, what is
the part of your email address after the @ symbol?
You can verify that you have the correct username and password by
logging in to your provider's webmail (with your browser).

If you are sure you are you are entering the correct username and
password, one possible cause for that error is account corruption.
One thing you should try as a quick fix is to delete that corrupted
mail account, restart Windows Mail, then recreate that account.

If that doesn't fix it, more drastic measures will have to be taken.
Which antivirus are you running?
As a minimum, email scanning in the antivirus must be turned off,
although that may not be sufficient to eliminate all bad effects.
In a worst case scenario, your antivirus may need to be uninstalled.

If turning off the email scanning function does not resolve your problem,
consider upgrading to Windows Live Mail, because it is less prone to
suffering bad effects from overly aggressive antivirus programs.

Email scanning in any antivirus must be disabled, for reasons
