A driver is installed that causes stability problems with your syatem.
This driver will be disabled. Please contact driver mfg for a update that is
compatible with this verision of windows (which is windows XP home edition)

I would appreciate any advice some may have..hopefully this is a simple
matter????

Go to Start/Run, and type DEVMGMT.MSC , highlight the dvd device, Action menu, "Uninstall", then restart Windows, to find the device
drivers again automatically.

A shot in the dark, are you running EZCD 4? Uninstall DirectCD, it
won't work
with WinXP. EZCD 4 can be patched to work, but not DirectCD.
Go here: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_abc.htm
Click "C" and scroll down to: CD-Rom or DVD Disappeared
Otherwise, more info about version would make it easier troubleshoot.

Dick
