Error Message- Ap has generated an excep- Help is Appreciated

Hello,

This is my first time on this site, so I hope I put this question in the
right place.

If anyone could help me with this error I would really appreciate it. I
broke my clavicle bone and need my computer working so I can telecommute. I
need to pay for those medical bills of course!

Whenever I turn on my computers the following comes up:
UpdNotif.EXE- Common Language Runtime Debugging Services
Application has generated an exception that could not be handled.
Process id=Ox588 (1416) Thread id=Ox758 (1880). Click OK to terminate the
application. Click Cancel to debug the application.

When I Click Cancel the following appears:
UpNotif.Exe.-No Debugger found. Reg. JIT debugger is not available. An
attempt to launch a JIT debugger with the following command resulted in an
error code of 0 X 2 (2). Please check computer settings. Cordbg.exelaOX588
Click Retry to have the process wait and attaché debugger manually. Click on
Cancel to abort the JIT debug request.

If I click debug in the first step something similar pops up. Also if I hit
Retry or Cancel on the second request nothing seems to help either. I am then
able to use my computer, but it is running slowly and takes 6-7 minutes just
to turn on (yeah, I timed it.)

Someone suggested adding or changing a registry key; but I am unable to find
one on my computer and am afraid I would mess up the system more.

Any suggestions appreciated.

From the Lacerte web site:

"Updnotif.exe is the Lacerte Internet Update notifier that runs in your
system tray to notify you when Internet Updates are available. The most
likely cause of the error is a corrupt component with that utility. You
may be able to correct the problem by simply re-running setup from the
Lacerte CD. If that does not correct the problem, you may need to run
Setup /force from the CD to force an overwrite of the existing
installation files. It should be noted, that running Setup /Force will
require you to reapply the Internet Updates after the installation is
complete. Also, the update notifier uses the Microsoft .Net framework
so a bad installation of those components would also adversely effect
the notifier, however the in-program help would also be non-functional
if that was the case.

If you need any assistance with any of the above, please contact Lacerte
Systems support at 1-800-933-9999."

Thank you so much Ted. I do run Lacerte on my computers so that is probably
it. I thought it was my daughter on AIM or MySpace.
How are you compensated-through Microsoft? Do you have a business?

Thanks,
Glenda

Neither I nor anyone else who posts here is paid by Microsoft or anyone
else. This is a public newsgroup, where ordinary people like you and me
volunteer whatever time and knowledge they have.

People who show unusual dedication to the newsgroup are recognized by
Microsoft and given the title MVP (most valuable professional, I think),
but no money.

To answer your question I searched the web for UpdNotif.EXE and found a
web page describing a problem similar to yours and identifying
UpdNotif.EXE as part of Lacerte software.

Glad I could help.
