Error Message and Blue Screen of Death - Need Help

G

Guest

I am having trouble with my computer restarting about 10-20 minutes after I
start it up, at which point it restarts and then works fine (ie, doesn't
restart again till I turn the computer off and back on.)

I got the following error when I turned off the automatic restart function
of Windows XP:

STOP:0x0000008e (0xc0000005, 0x805677f1, 0xb887c8c8, 0x00000000.

Can anyone help me with this?

Please post a complete copy of the Stop Error Report and other Error
and Warning Reports from Event Viewer.

I suggest you Disable automatic restart on system failure. This
should help by allowing time to write down the STOP code properly.
Right click on the My Computer icon on the Desktop and select
Properties, Advanced, StartUp and Recovery, System Failure and uncheck
box before automatically Restart.

Do not re-enable automatic restart on system failure until you have
resolved the problem. Check for variants of the Stop Error message.
There will also be Error Reports in Event Viewer. Please post copies.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning
of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description
are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308427/en-us

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you
should double click for further information. You can copy using copy
and paste. Often the link will, however, say there is no further
information.

(Please note the hyperlink above is for illustration purposes only)

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event Viewer.
Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of the
message. This will paste the info from the Event Viewer Error Report.
Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from Event Viewer.

if link broken try

Are there any yellow question marks in Device Manager? Right click on
the My Computer icon on your Desktop and select Properties. Hardware,
Device Manager. If yes what is the Device Error code?

Does your Windows XP CD include the SP2 update or did you download the
update or use one of the special SP2 CDs mass mailed to customers in
2004?

What is your computer make and model?

Hope this helps.

Also, there was a yellow mark next to PnP BIOS Extension in the Device
Manager. The message was:

"Windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware. (Code 37)

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device."

-------------

I got SP2 with the computer.

Im not sure on how to get the computer make and model number. But Im running
an AMD Athlon XP 2600 processor.

It would appear that you have tried to or have installed Daemon Tools
( perhaps also Alcohol). It seems likely that the installation has
failed (Device Error Code 37). Daemon is cuurently putting out beta
software, which if installed can put your computer system at risk. You
are getting two types of Blue Screen of Death errors, both indicating
that software is trying to access memory in parts where it should not
be going.

Daemon Tools Software is freeware. I would suggest you uninstall or
otherwise remove the Daemon Tools software.

Click Start
Select Settings
Click Control Panel
Double-click on Add/Remove Programs
Scroll and click on DAEMON Tools
Click Remove

Hope this helps.
