Recently my computer has been shutting itself off without
warning. It began when I was using Windows ME and I
thought it was a problem with the O/S. I recently
upgraded to XP, hoping that the problem would be fixed.
Two things happened. Unfortunately, the problem was not
fixed. Fortunately, because of XP's error log, I was able
to identify the problem.
The error message being shown is:

After reading Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 283649
concerning this subject, in which it recommended that I
contact the vendor for a BIOS update, I realized that the
problems actually began a while back AFTER I installed a
BIOS update.
My questions are:
1. Why does my computer shut down because of this
attempted read/write?
2. How can I fix it? Is there a way to revert back to the
old BIOS? Or can I block off that portion of memory so
that the BIOS will not attempt to write to the memory
block?
Any help that you can give me would be greatly
appreciated.
