error installing xp home edition

when I try to install windows xp home edition it says
that my drive c is corrupted and non fixable. it is a new
hard drive so this can't be true
 
Did you install the software that came with your hard
drive? Perhaps this is the problem. Restart setup and
then repartition and format your drive using XP to do so.
