Install an earlier version of windows xp

I have a new computer that has windows xp home edition installed. I need to
install windows xp professional. (to connect to a domain)

When I try to install it won't let me because the professional edition I
have is older than the home edition already installed.

Is there a way to install the older version of professional without
formatting the hard drive?

You will need to create a new Windows XP Pro installation CD that has
Service Pack 2 slipstreamed into it.

XP Slipstream:

Order Windows XP Service Pack 2 on CD:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/updates/sp2/cdorder/en_us/default.mspx

Windows XP Service Pack 2 complete download:

Good luck

Slipstreaming xp SP2 into the pro cd sounds like it may be the answer but,
youre real problems might just be starting...Microsoft specifically says "not
to install pro over home",a clean install of pro from home is the only
way,the
"upgrade" is for older windows OS....Try running the FTW save youre settings,
files to a cd.When pro is installed open FTW,also, run FTW from xp cd...

Thank you Ron. I was successful in slipstreaming my windows xp to a disc. I
only have one problem. When I insert the disk it boots but it is not
accepting my license number. I have a group license number. any suggestions?

It should. The product keys do not change because of Service Pack
updates.

Are you certain that you are reading the product key correctly? Some
of them are printed using a very poorly chosen font and it is
sometimes difficult to distinguish between:
B and 8
G and 6
S and 5
etc.

Good luck
