In the MS Word program, I made changes to a document I keep on a
floppy disk. When I tried to save it, I got this error message:

"A file error has occurred.
Try one or more of the following
*Check the disk drive to make sure the disk is properly inserted.
*Check the disk or the disk drive to make sure there is not a hardware
problem.
*Check the network connections."

I checked the disk drive & found the disk properly inserted. But I
don't know how to check the disk drive for a hardware problem. And
why check the network connection? This has nothing to do with the
internet. How do I find and clear this problem?

"Check the network connections" does not necessarily mean the internet. It
may mean that someone who gets the error is trying to save to a network
location. This obviously has nothing to do with you.

THINGS TO TRY
You are trying to save your document to a removable disk drive...
You are trying to save your document to a removable disk drive, and the
removable media is not present for saving. For example, your floppy disk
drive does not contain a floppy disk.
* Make sure the removable media is available for saving by reinserting the
media.

NOTE: While you are saving a file to a floppy disk, you must not remove the
floppy disk from the disk drive until the operation is completely finished
(the light on the floppy disk drive turns off and stays turned off).
* Make sure the removable media is not write-protected.

If your drive isn't screwed up try another floppy.

Try sending any file to your floppy to determine that your floppy drive
works and that the floppy disk is good.

Right click any file, point to Send To and click 3 1/2 Floppy (A:)
Then click Start | Click Run| Type: a: | Click OK.
See if the file you sent to the floppy is there.

The point is now moot. I've discovered flash drives & am now using
that. But thanks for your response. I've printed it out in case I
need to use floppy disks for some reason. And I found that my PC
hasn't been working properly, Geek Squad is coming in this week. I'll
bring this problem up to them.
