Error in loading DLL

Can't get MSAS to run correctly on my laptop. The summary
page doesn't list most data correctly or hold certain
settings.

Here is the error log right after I re-installed for the
third time:

0::ln 0:App.PrevInstance =
True::gcasDtServ:modMain:Main::1/20/2005 4:00:55
PM:1.0.501
0::ln 0:App.PrevInstance =

PM:1.0.501
48::ln 0:Error in loading
DLL::gcasServ:modMain:Main::1/20/2005 4:00:56 PM:1.0.501

I've shut down all the programs I'm supposed too,
Restarted the computer after un-installing, etc.

This is the error log after running MSAS and trying to
set the parameters.

Any help or ideas?

I have done just that. Just to make sure, I re-
downloaded the file. I'm using the same download that I
used to install MSAS sucessfully on my two desktops. So
far, I have un-installed and re-installed 4 times. Each
time trying something different, all with the same
results and same error messages.

Hmm--some others have reported success after stopping some other services
running on a given machine.

I don't know whether an installation is possible in this mode, but it might
be worth trying:
Use MSCONFIG to set Diagnostic startup, and try installing in that mode.

If you are protected by a third-party software firewall, please disconnect
from the Internet before booting in this mode.

Thanks for the suggestion. I learned something new. But
it didn't solve the problem. Any other ideas would be
greatly appreciated.

I'm at a loss, or I would have replied earlier. Have the services running
on this machine been tuned by hand--i.e. are there services disabled from
starting that would not be, on a default installation?

Your suggestion made me curious so I set up my two
desktops (which have successful installs of MSAS) and the
laptop and compared all running services using the
services viewer. They were all 3 virtually identical. No
missing service or disabled service. I have used regedit
and attempted to remove all instances of Giant and
antispyware. That did not help. While most of the
program does work, I'm at the point where I'd like to
know why doesn't all of it function. In scanning the
newsgroups, it appears I'm the only one with this problem
so most likely it's my computer and not the program.
I'll keep experimenting. Thanks for the help and
suggestions.

I'm not convinced that you are unique, but I don't have an answer about what
is happening!

The broad theme in installation errors seems to be "permissions." Not
installing as an admin, having somehow restricted permissions on
subdirectories of Program Files, Dcom not running, not sure what else.
Mostly these issues give error messages--101,102, and 103. Then there are
installs which give no errors but still don't function correctly--the UI is
incomplete--the advanced tools system explorers are invisible, etc. Some
have suceeded in the installs by specifying a non-standard folder--c:\msas,
for example, working around, presumably, some issue with \program files.

I don't have enough evidence from the newsgroup posts about these issues
where the install apparently goes fine, but the ui either fails to function
correctly in part or pieces of it are missing, after the install. I haven't
seen this myself on any machine I've touched, and I can't recall hearing
lots of crowing about workarounds that folks in the groups have found--well,
there was one guy who found that reinstalling DAO fixed his missing system
explorers, if I am recalling correctly--but I couldn't tell you how to do
that, I'm afraid.
