Error in Control Panel/Game Controller/Properties

I have Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 1a.
When I click on Properties of a Game Controller I receive an error message
that
"Run DLL as an App has encountered a problem and needs to close". From
details I learned that the app is Rundll32.exe. I have tried to repair this
but nothing seems to work including reinstalling Windows.
Can anyone please help?

Thomas, what game controller are you using? Does it have WinXP drivers?
Rt click on MyComputer>select Properties>
Hardware>Device Manager>Sound, Video and Game Controllers>look for a
yellow mark next to game port. If there
the drivers have to reinstalled or updated.

Dear Rich,
Thanks. I did look at the Game Port in the Device Manager and it is
working properly. However, my Sidewinder Freestyle shows up in the Game
Controller Control Panel but is listed as not connected. I had not noticed
this before. Maybe the Controller has gone bad. I believe that I should
update XP to Service Pack 2 and try the Game Controller on another system
before I do anything else.
