I have been unable to find any references to PFV but from your description
of the crash, it could well be academic.
Was XP fully installed and operational before the crash?
If so, then you can try System Restore first -
Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools - and if that doesn't work, you'll
need to try a Repair Installation.
To do this you will need to boot to the Windows XP CD.
Cold boot and immediately hit F1 or maybe 'Delete' - this will show at the
bottom of the boot screen as "Press F1 to enter setup" or similiar.
In Setup (BIOS) set the boot sequence to look for the CD-ROM first.
Insert the Windows XP CD and boot. Choose Repair Installation.
If the crash occurred as the original installation completed, before you
could actually run XP, then you have a major disaster and, while an MVP
might pick up your problem and advise differently, I think you will have to
carry out a "Clean Install".
If this is the case, and as it is a long explanation, post again with the
request on how to do it. You will get a quick response, I'm sure.
