error during install

I am trying to do a clean install from windows 2000 to
XP. The install projess goes fine until all of the files
are copied from the CD. Then an error message: "Setup
unable to read or write to drive C: ..." occurs. I have
removed all virus scanners. Any ideas on what the
problem may be?

Did you have third party partitioning software on the machine like Partition
Magic? If so, its possible you have a custome MBR that XP is losing in some
way or another. Clean installs would indicate that you dont have an OS on
the drive, are you launching setup from 2k to install to another partition
or are you upgrading?
