Error While Installation- setup unable to read or write to drive c

I hav a P.C with windows X.P professional... Nw it is has become slow due to
no. of software installed.... I m trying to install X.P again but the setup
is giving error that- "setup was unable to read or write to drive C. If a
Virus scanner is running, disable it and then restart"

I have no Anti Virus in my P.C... what shall i do... please help me... My id

Sound like you are trying to install from within win, which you cannot do

PS Having lots of programs is unlikely to be the cause of any slowdown,
unless those programs are buggy

Youre going about it wrong....If you have a xp cd (retail),install xp
cd,restart
pc,boot to xp cd (set the BIOS to cdrom 1st boot device w/xp cd,hd 2nd)set
this in boot priority/or similiar,once at xp cd boot menu,select
install,new copy,
delete the partition,create one,let the cd format & install auto...Otherwise
youre simply installing over the old OS...
