Error Deleting File or Folder

Matt

I want to delete C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local
Settings\Temp, which stores the tempoarary internet files. I did it in
Internet Options in IE, but the files are still there after pressing "delete
file" button. I tried to delete it manually, and it pops up dialog titled
"Error Deleting File or Folder", and says "Cannot delete 10713~1: Cannot
find the specified file. Make sure you specify the correct path and
filename." I tried to start up the machine in safe mode, but I still not
able to delete those files.

Any workarounds? Thanks!!

Local Settings\Temp is not where the temporary internet files are normally
stored. They are normally in Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files.
You cannot delete this folder for the currently logged-in user. The best
way to accomplish that is to log in as another user with administrator
rights and delete Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5. If
you really want to delete some files from Local Settings\Temp, you should
be able to do so through Explorer without taking any special action unless
the files themselves are in use.

Your temp directory, which, by the way, is also stored in the environment
variable %temp%, does not normally store your temporary internet files. In
Internet Options, on the general tab, choose the [Settings] button. You can
see that your Temporary Internet Files folder is normally under your
userprofile in Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files. That's right next to
the temp folder, right off of Local Settings. And, on the general tab, you
can choose [Delete Files], if that is your goal.

If your goal is to empty your temporary directory, you can at the command
prompt issue:
del /s /q %temp%
which will delete what it can, and leave what it cannot delete. Strangely
enough, it also leaves behind some directory structure, which you can either
ignore, or delete in Windows Explorer.

And please avoid crossposting this way. Pick a group. Thanks.

First you quote a message from an old thread without adding anything anf
then you post not one but two apparently valid email addresses in a public
newsgroup? Why would anyone think you might have something worthwhile to
say? I'm sure you'll get lots of mail, but not about deleting files.
