Error creating scheduled task

I've been setting up a workgroup environment for a small office lately.

I've installed backup software and I've been trying to schedule a task to
run the backup software. There is a scheduler within the backup software but
that's an entirely different problem.

I set up the scheduled task for the primary user on the workstation who is
also an administrator on the workstation. After setting up the scheduled
task I'm prompted for a user password but user passwords are not used so I
don't enter one. I then receive the message "0x8007005: Access is denied."

I searched the MS KB and came up with the following KB article:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;884573

I obtained the hotfix from MS but I am still being prompted for a password.
I've tried the workaround listed at the bottom of the article but I continue
to be prompted for the password while setting up the scheduled task.

Any ideas?

Thank you.

Hello Brian,

Just yesterday i was facing exactly the same problem at work. Strange enough, i also noticed that a
variety of other reasons can prompt error code "0x8007005" like, improper path to the executable,
incorrect working directory etc etc. In my case, i was trying to schedule a custom made application
which resided on the user's desktop. Moving this app to a 'C:\myapp' directory solved the problem.

I am sorry i could not provide much help, but I thought of jumping in since I faced a similar
situation yesterday. Do let us know how it goes.

PS: Can you password protect the account, enable autologon and then provide the password to task
scheduler ? If you are running Windows XP Home, you may run the following edit:

Run Scheduled Tasks without password (line 67, left column)

Thank you for the reply.

I was thinking along the same lines as you as far as enabling autologon and
setting a password. I'm just trying to think if there might be any
unforeseen consequences!

Scheduled Tasks must be set for a user with a password, they will not
run for a user that has no password.
