Task Scheduler Failure

I have 2 new desktops, both running Windows XP Pro, version 2002, SP2. I
attempted to schedule a backup using "Backup My PC" software, and after
saving the job, when I went to close the dialog box I got a message: "Error 0
reported by task scheduler when adding job." I then attempted to schedule a
backup using the Windows backup utility and received a message "A new task
has been created but may not run because the account information could not be
set. The specific error is: 0x80070005: Access denied." The same thing
happened on both computers; I have full administrators rights on both
machines.

An inquiry to the MS knowledge base produced Article 904423 suggesting that
MS security update 841873 was the cause of the problem. As instructed by the
Article, I obtained and installed hotfix file:
"WindowsXP-KB904423-x86-ENU.exe" It did not
fix the problem and I get the same messages when attempting to schedule a
task. I can use the backup software (both Backup My PC and Windows backup)
to perform immediate backups so these programs seem to be working properly as
long as the task scheduler is not involved.

I did check the "Services" dialog box under Administrative
Tools and it shows Task Scheduler as running. Nevertheless, I tried a
restart of task scheduler in this dialog box , but it did not correct the
problem.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Make sure to run the scheduled task under an account that has
a non-blank password. It's best to use a dedicated account
for this.

Thanks. I am the sole user of this account and it did not have a password
assigned. When a password was added, the scheduler worked just fine.
