Error creating DFS replica

D

David

Hi,

Not sure if i can tell you the whole story in a few
sentences but i'll try.

I've got 2 domains. Both AD. I've got trusts between the
domains. Added "Domain Admins" to the "Administrators"
group.

I use DFS to centralise data. Its on servers all over the
place.

I freed up space on a server in domain "A" and want to
create a DFS replica of a DFS link in domain "B".

When i set the replication policy and click OK i recieve
the following error messages:

"The following error occurred while creating nTFRSMember
object in the Active Directory for the share on serverB:
The media is write protected."

and

"Some errors occurred in configuring the replication
policy. Please re-open the replication policy to verify
the settings."

I'm sure it has something to do with the trusts and so
but i really need a bumb in the right direction.

Thanks!

David

If you want to follow up, please repost in
microsoft.public.windows.server.dfs_frs.

First, FRS (the replication engine behind DFS replicas) can only replicate
across domains in the same forest. If you are trying to replicate across
forests, that will not work.

When you're setting up a cross-domain, same forest replica, you need to keep
the following in mind.
The user who enables replication must have:

* Local admin rights on all members

* Full control, including child objects, on the computer objects for each
member (the computer object will be spread across the domains)

* Full control on the File Replication Service container under the system
container in one of the domains. The settings in the File Replication
Service container can go in any of the domains, but the trick is to know
which domain will be used by the tool being used to create the replica set.
When the DFS MMC snap-in is used to create a DFS based replica, set the
domain used for the File Replication Service is the same domain that hosts
the domain based DFS root.
