Error "Could not start Event Logger"

S

Satsmi

Hi,

I'm running Windows 2000 Advanced Server in my laptop.
Two days back when I rebooted it, it wouldn't come up with
any icons in desktop and pops up an error message "Could
not start Event Logger". Could somebody help to solve this
problem. No other icons in the desktop are visible and the
mouse right click doesn't work either.

Thanks,
Satsmi

Appears to be a yet unknown virus.

Try;
<Ctl><Shift><Esc> to start Task Manager then File|New
Task|%windir%\explorer.exe
Does the desktop load? If so then using Windows Explorer look for a rogue
copy of "explorer" in the "Windows" directory. (probably without an
extension)
