Hi, Travis.

As Rifleman says, just boot from the CD and let WinXP Setup partition and
format the drive for you. If you want to create or format additional
partitions after installation, use WinXP's Disk Management to do that.

The DOS program FDISK only partitions the drive, you know. To format the
drive, you would need to use Format.exe after the partitions are created.

If you are using Format.exe from MS-DOS , then you are limiting yourself to
FAT32. Unless you plan to install Win9x/ME on this computer, there's no
need to cling to FAT. Let WinXP Setup format the drive NTFS. This has
several advantages, including greater security, both in the sense of
preventing unauthorized access and in the sense of less chance of corrupting
your files.

R. C.,
I have a few questions. The reason i used the fdisk, was becuase i was
having a lot of problems with windows xp that was already installed on the
computer. I could start the computer it would keep on
restarting and
giving
the options for safe mode and all the others then i
would choose an
opotion
and it would try and open and then just reboot and take me to the same
screen. when i tried to repair the os using the cd it would not let me get
past the point were it loaded the dll's it would give me
an error code of
4.
so i decided to format the computer and try and start over. To do this i
downloaded a 98 bootdisk that had fdisk on it. i used the bootdisk to boot
the computer and then deleted the partition and created a new one. i
restarted the computer and loaded the win xp install cd and now i am at my
provlem. i am doing something wrong. the win xp has
already gone through
and

I believe that this is a compatability issue between the cdrom
drive and the disk being used to install XP. Is this by any
chance a copy of XP. I was always getting these type errors
with CDROM drives and I now use DVD drives.
