error code 41

when i put a disk in my d drive it wasnt loading up. so for example i put in
windows xp installtion disk it would light up and you could hear it run the
it stop.
so i sum how mangerd to go to windows update and reinstall the drive but
then i came up with this message;

qsi cdrw/dvd sbw - 241
device status; windows successfully loaded the device driver for this
hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (code 41).

im no coumputer wize ive done has much as i can do please please is there
anyone who could help me solve this problem. i think what happen was my
friend before giving me the laptop that she formated the drive.
its causeing so many problems i cant install anything from my d drive.
please can anyone help please ???
