Steve

I just installed xp pro on my daughters computer. It
worked fine for a day or so did all the updates and all.
Tried to load Easy CD creator 6 and when it told me to
reboot I did. Upon reboot I got the following message

Windows Product Activation
A problem is preventing windows from accuratley checking
the licsence for this computer.
Error code: 0x80090006.

I can't even get into the machine in safe mode or anything.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Steve,

From what I've found, that type of problem can happen if drive letters
change for some reason. We have an article that discusses the problem
(although not in the same context as your situation):

821401 "Error 0x80090006" When You Restart Windows XP After You Restore Your
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=821401

That article recommends performing an in-place upgrade, then reactivating
the XP license afterward. This may be worth a shot; an in-place upgrade is
a method of repairing an existing XP installation. The article that
describes this process is:

315341 How to Perform an In-Place Upgrade (Reinstallation) of Windows XP
