Windlows error message after automatic update: error code 0x80090006

C

Chris Hagler

My PC did an automatic update last night, restarted itself, and now
continues to give me the following error:

"a problem is preventing Windows from accurately checking the license for
this computer. error code 0x80090006"

I have restarted in safe mode...same error. I have restarted and told
Windows to start in lat known good configuration...same error.

This is my wife's PC...it has worked flawlessly for 1 year, and have not
made any changes to it (software / hardware) in the last 6 months.)

Any idea how I can get past this error....seems like the auto update went
bad or something?

Thanks....

Chris...

try first this: You need the installation cd because may ask for it

Start - run - type or copy/paste sfc /scannow (press enter)
wait untill finish, restart

if problem persist
some people resolve the problem doing a repair of the MBR (master boot record)
go here to steps:
http://www.askbobrankin.com/fix_mbr.html

Now if problem persist do a repair of the OS:

http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

http://www.windowsreinstall.com/winxppro/installxpcdrepair/indexfullpage.htm

a few people I know the only way they fixed was clean install the os
