Error Code 0000009c

I am using a validated XP Home SP2.
The machine suffers from random blackouts where the HD LED stays lit and the
machine must be rebooted.

The event viewer shows:

Error Code 0000009c
Parameter1 00000000
Parameter2 f7870050
Parameter3 b2000000
Parameter4 1040080f

I started replacing/swapping components one by one.
I upgraded to an excellent power supply with ample current, and have swapped
the video card and CDROM drive.
I am using the exact memory specified by the mobo manufacturer, and have
also swapped it with new sticks.
The only remaining original components are the motherboard and hard drive.

Based on all your collective experience, is it advisable at this point to
try and have the mobo replaced?
Are there any known problems with the ECS P4M800PRO-M (v1.0a)

That error definitely indicates a hardware issue. Have you overclocked it?
It could be the CPU or the motherboard.

No overclocking and CPU temperature appears OK (usually around 47C)
I will RMA the mobo if that's the consensus...

Is there any more information in Event Viewer?

Have tried updating the BIOS?

I would try HD Tune (freeware).
Download and run it and see what it turns up.
http://www.hdtune.com/

Select the Info tabs and place the cursor on the drive under Drive
letter and then double click the two page icon ( copy to
Clipboard ) and copy into a further message.

Select the Health tab and then double click the two page icon ( copy to
Clipboard ) and copy into a further message.

Also do a full surface scan with HD Tune.

What is the make and model of the hard drive?

Hope this helps.

Hi Gerry,

Thanks for the direction.
I will do as you suggest and come back with the info.
