ERROR ACCESSING REGISTRY

I am trying to import a registry key on a Windows XP SP2 machine. The logon
I am using is a member of the Administrator group on the workstation, but I
am unable to import the key. I keep getting an error "error accessing
registry". I also set the logon id permissions to "full access" on HKEY
LOCAL MACHINE, but I still get the error. Anyone have any ideas?
 
Are you importing from a disk such as CD-ROM or Floppy? Copy to the drive
locally and check the properties to see if the HKEY files is read only.

What key more explicitly? There are some System keys that are not
possible to write to
