Error 5

Greetings all. I am trying to resurect a HP Pavillion which has a 20Gb
Quantum Fireball disk. Can anyone inform me of the error 5 specifics?

Going crazy...

At what point does the "error 5" message appear?

Hey Carey,

This happens during installation...early when default device drivers are
being loaded...

Physically disconnect all hardware peripheral devices from
your computer. You should only have your mouse, keyboard
and monitor attached when installing XP.

Been there...done that. I'm now going through the process of formatting the
drive from scratch.

This machine is an HP, and maybe there is something specific of the hardrive
setup. I do know that MS does not support XP with this system, but I have
had XP running on it, as well as 2000.

ARGH!!!
