i have recently loaded a new cd/dvd writer and, in device manager, keep getting unable to load device driver which may be corrupted error 39
I have tried everything that I can think of, uninstalling, re-installing, removing limits but cannot get it to work
On device Manager the writer symbol is covered with a yellow circle containing a black exclamation mark
Any solutions anyone.

Are u installing from a manufacturer's diskette? Perhaps there are some
corrupt sectors. Try downloading the driver off the net.

I tried that but when I arrived at the site there was no upper registry to delet. I deleted the lower registry but it made no difference

In the Windows XP Knowledge base do a search on "Code 39" . There is a registry mod that will fix that
I just had this problem.

Yes I have downloaded the driver from the internet, but it makes no difference and the writer did not have an installation disc
Having looked around the help issues it appears to be a common problem with XP

Yup. XP is particular about its hardware, I hear. It's like a Ford -
doesn't like iraqi motor oil. ;-)
