I had Norton installed on my computer and just unintalled it to try other
antivirus programs. When I went to restart the security center I got this
error:

Could not start Security Center on Local Computer
Error 3: The system cannot find the specified path

I have no idea what to do.

Hi Josh,

If you uninstalled it, you would have to reinstall it from the original
installation media before any of the functions would work.

All I have is a recovery cd and Windows does not recognize it when windows
setup boots up. Is there a way to reapply SP2? I can't contact my computer
manufacturer for another recovery disk since Northgate Innovations is no
longer in business.

I was referring to reinstalling the Norton software, not SP2. Which of their
security center's are you attempting to start?

I know what you mean on Northgate, I still use one of their laptops (in fact
I'm using it now to remote into a Vista desktop system). Solid machines too.

Sorry I didn't specify...I'm trying to start the Windows Security Center and
I get the error mentioned earlier. And yes I agree Northgate did make solid
machines. This comp has been going strong since xmas of 03.

When I do that it brings up the Security Center window, but it isn't started.
It says the Security Center has not been started, but when I go to start it
the error comes up.

In the meantine, open Regedit.exe and navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\wscsvc

Export the branch to a file, and include the file contents in your reply.
