Error 1904 dll failed to register

I have 2 user accounts on XP Home. Both are administrator level. MS
Antispyware will run under one user, but when I log in as the 2nd user I get
the Message that Antispyware has encountered an unexpected error. I went to
control panel Add/Remove. Selected Change & told Antispyware to Update. I
then got the message "Error 1904 system32\GCCollection.dll failed to
register" Clicking OK brings up several more dll failed messages followed
by the unexpected error message. I've all ready tried to uninstall &
reinstall twice. Im also running Mcafee Virusscan version 9.1.08.

having the same problem here.....for some reason in their
ultimate scheme, they have redone the code to where only
the owner of the system may run the program....which
about as stupid as it can be.....it should be running at
all times regardless of who is logged in.....and even
more so if the owner isn't the one logged in.....seems to
me that would keep things protected even better

This is something wrong with Windows, rather than MS AntiSpyware.

First, check that you are trying the installation from an account with
Administrator privileges.

Next, check your Windows installation to see if it is corrupted in any way.
You could for instance try running the command:

sfc /scannow

Is there any possibility that you might already be infected with malware?

I have the same problem on win xp (sp2) (also posted in
the thread: Problem with Microsoft antispyware beta 1)

It works fine with one user (owner) but I can't start the
program with another (both are admins), tried to
uninstall and reinstall, same problem, tried to repair
logged in with the user that have problems and got a lot
of errors about dll files not able to register.

* I don't have malware, adware, spyware on this computer
(scanned with ad-aware, spybot s&d, avg, HJT and so on)
* Microsoft antispyware used to work for that user but it
doesn't anymore

I have the same problem. So I ran sfc /scannow as you suggested, however, it
asks for a XP Home CD. I dont have an XP Home CD. My Fry's PC didnt come
with one. Any sugestions?

Look for an \i386 folder, probably under C:\Windows. When sfc asks for the
CD browse to that.

Guys
The problem is to do with registry permissions. If you search the registry
for entries under Gcasdtserve and other Gcas entries you will find that only
the original installer has access rights to many keys. To resolve the 1904
errors I gave the 'Users' Group full access to the keys where the original
installing account has rights.
All accounts on my (XP Home) PC can now run Anti Spyware.

Yeap, I'm sure they can run it and make system changes to it as well...
Hopefully, that's something you or anyone else that contemplates doing this
really wants to do and you have considered the consequences carefully. :)

I take your point but i would rather have my kids surf with the protection of
the Anti-Spyware in place than no protection as previously.

Do you have a better solution?

I hear you there, and your right, I don't have a better solution using just
Beta1 until Windows® Defender surfaces sometime around Feb., 2006. I would
suggest that you review your permissions after that install.

Andre Da Costa tells us:
It (W®D) will installed as a System wide service which means you can do things
like multiple account scanning and updates for the application even when logged
off.

Sorry, I think my query should have come in here rather than further up, how
does one do what you've just recommended?
Cheers
