Error 1904 can't register msrclr40.dll

Running Access XP one of my users is getting the error 1904 that it can't
register msrclr40.dll whenever he tries to open a database. The program then
gets an unrecognized error and access wants to shut down and restart after
saving a copy of the current database. But when he attempts to save it it
starts a loop of the unrecognized error and keeps wanting to backup the file
again which errors again.

You get the same scenario if I try to repair Access. I've also tried
uninstalling and reinstalling access.

I found lots of spyware and some viruses on this machine and cleaned it all
up but the problem remains.

ANy help would be greatly appreciated as the process that needs to run is
mission critical.

Thanks
Kim

I had to update the MDAC components to the current version, I ran a system
file check and then installed Windows XP SP 2 and all is well again!

I have the same problem as Kim. How do you update MDAC. I have Windows XP SP2
already installed.
Help.

Hi Doug:
I ran the MDAC Utility component checker and it says I have MDAC 2.8 SP1 on
Windows XP SP2 which looks like the latest version. Any other suggestion you
might offer to help me correct my problem? Any idea how I developed this
problem?
Thanks,
Bob
