error 1075: The dependency service does not exist or has been marked
for deletion

the above error appears when trying to start SQLSERVERAGENT from
services, there are no dependencies listed on the dependency tab
when check properties and click start i get the following:

Could not start the SQLSERVERAGENT service on Local Computer
error 1075: The dependency service does not exist or has been marked
for deletion

I am logged into the computer as an administrator but am still unable
to start the service.

any help would be greatly apreciated

Same problem after reinstall of xpsp2 (had problems with i386 files not being
installed) now I am failing updates , no firewall , no security centre
functionability.and the same messages as you I also have a 1083 error and
who knows what else.The services required to run these functions are hard to
reinstall/reactivate, I am making some progress following steps in microsoft
knowledge base but am far from finished.
HELP PLEASE
