Error 0x800CC0E - windows mail suddenly quit working

I have verizon FIOS for server - Windows Vista - and have been using my
windows mail with ho problems until 2 days and i can't send or receive mail.
i changed NOTHING - and get socket error:10013 - error#0x800CC0E. I read
these posts - and changed my port from 25 to 587 and the error messages
didn't pop up - but it still wouldn't do anything. I'm at a complete loss.
Can anyone help?

We often need complete error messages, not just parts of them, to offer much
help. If you need more help, right click on them and copy the complete
error
messages to your next message.

First, though, you might want to check your Verizon settings:

Right-click on the error message, copy, then paste it into a reply here.
We need to see all the diagnostic information.

Not sure why you would change the port to 587 since Verizon may not
support that. Verizon has 5 different kinds of email service, so I have no
way of knowing which type you have. Follow the links starting here:

Search google with '0x800CC0E' (minus the quotes) and you will see lots
of people (and possible solutions) withthis problem

Socket error 10013 = Permission Denied.
Try checking (or unchecking) "My server requires authentication".
If you've read all this posts you know we do a lot better if you give us the
exact, complete, error message.

I changed the port to 587 because I saw someone else's post saying they did
that and it worked - - but they had comcast. I'll try following the links
you all sent and see if i can find anything under verizon's settings. Didn't
try that before because the windows mail was working just fine so figured the
settings had to be correct. Thanks

I googled the socket error and error # and found the solution. Have no idea
how the setting was changed in my trend micro firewall but it was and now it
is working just fine. must've been an update. Thank you all so much for
your help. This is my first time using this discussion group and it is
comforting to know there are experienced people out there willing to help.
Thank you again.

And the next time Trend Micro releases an update, your Windows Mail
will probably break again. This is the fallacy of using third party
firewall products. Windows Firewall does an adequate job and is
100% compatible.
