Error 0x8007007E and 0x8004210A in Outlook 2002 on TS session

Gregg Hill

Hello!

I am not sure if this is an issue with Outlook 2002 or with Windows 2000
Terminal Server, so I posted to both newsgroups. Users are trying to use
Outlook 2002 for their POP3 email while logged into a Windows 2000 Server
Terminal Server. I know their POP3 provider runs their mail on his Windows
Server 2003 Enterprise server, and I assume it is Exchange 2003. The TS
server runs Symantec Antivirus 8, which does not have the email-scanning
features on stand-alone NAV products (some articles said to disable email
scanning).

When Outlook 2002 is first opened while in a Windows 2000 Terminal Server
(Windows 2000 Server SP4, MDAC 2.5 SP3) session from any XP Pro workstation
(remote or on the LAN), I get an almost immediate error stating:

Task 'mail.mydomain.com - Sending and Receiving' reported error (0x8007007E)
: 'Unknown Error 0x8007007E'

I found nothing relevant on Google Groups for that error. After hitting
Cancel on above error, then Send/Receive, this error results:

Task 'mail.mydomain.com - Sending and Receiving' reported error (0x8004210A)
: 'The operation timed out waiting for a response from the receiving (POP)
server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server
administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'

Googled 0x8004210A and found multiple articles and suggestions, none of
which helped yet. Followed article
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;827349 and installed
Office XP SP3 and still get same errors.

I have (with reboots in between each step) installed Office XP SP3, run a
Detect and Repair, removed Office XP, reinstalled Office XP and SP3, Windows
Update all done. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Gregg Hill

P.S. I turned on email logging and got the following:

Though I am late to reply Gregg but this might be useful for others who come in. I had been facing this issue with my outlook from 3-4 days and was just about to format my machine before I came across this solution:-
Solution:-
1. Search for inetcomm.dll
2. If the file is not present in system32 folder copy it there.
3. run regsvr32 inetcomm.dll on comand prompt.

Thats it and you are done.

Thanks,
Rachit(www.algoworks.com)
