Erratic Mouse

I recently switched to using an optical mouse initially on my Notebook
and later on my desktop.

Two diffent Mice - one from Dell and the other from Logitech.

I have a problem with the Mouse cursor taking off and moving at
random.

I have virus scanners installed in each machine and spyware etc,

Any ideas ?

I would say you're using a patterned mouse pad. Try using a plain one, or
none at all. It happened to me when moving to optical, when there's a change
in the mouse pad pattrn or colour the cursor jumps

You could also check that there isnt anything clogged up near the sensor
underneath the mouse, that causes problems.
