erratic mouse movements

i have a gpt optical mouse that did not come with a driver.
since i got it it's been moving erraticaly.
i've tried installing several optical mice drivers for different makes but
none of them solved them problem.
i'd really appreciate help because as you can imagine this is a patricularly
annoying problem since it's difficult to solve the problem with your mouse
jumping all over the place.
p.s. i'm not sure this is the suitable newsgroup for this query. if you
could suggest a more appropriate newsgroup i'd appreciate it.

Do you have your microphone (speech recognition) enabled? Sometimes this will cause
your mouse to behave erratically.

Shai,

First try updating your driver: right-click on My Computer > Properties >
Hardware > Device Manager > right-click on your Mouse driver and 'Update'.
If it doesn't actually reinstall or says it is up-to-date then right-click
and Uninstall and immediately reboot. Your mouse driver will reinstall upon
booting. If this doesn't work you probably have another problem causing this
behavior.

This might sound silly, but if the surface the mouse is operating on is
shiny or reflective, it could be causing the problems you're seeing. Try
using something dull, like a standard rubber mousepad - I've found that a
plain sheet of printer paper works fine for me.
