Erratic Mouse

I moved my PC to a new location and since then my mouse is behaving
erratically. I can use it but sometimes it jumps all over the place. I did a
search on the internet and came across MS KB 321122 which I applied
(basically uninstalling the mouse and deleting all Registry keys referring
to it). Still the same. I tried with another mouse and exactly the same
behavior. My system is Win XP pro with MS optical wheel / Mitsumi optical
wheel connected to USB. That particular machine does not have an internet
connection, so malware or viruses are to be excluded. Any suggestion for
this very annoying problem? Thanks
Daniel.

Hi Jeff,

Tried a different USB, tried a ps2 mouse: no change, same problem... I am at
the end..

Hi,

That's very weird, moving the PC should not have affected the mouse in
anyway. Since its an optical mouse, are you using it on a mouse pad or just
plain surface? I noticed some optical mice have no problems on any type of
surface and others you have to use a mouse pad without any reflective
surface. Have you purged the mouse driver completely and tried to install a
new verison or even an older version of the mouse driver. Also (shouldn't
make a difference) have you tried the mice on another computer (just to rule
out the mouse problem)? Will try to think of what else might affect the
mouse.

When moving the mouse around, is the red light acting strangely (on and off)
as well? Might be a power issue.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for your quick replies.
The red light is consistent. I have my laptop sitting next to the desktop
with the mouse problem and mouse from the desktop behaves properly on the
same surface. Both mice are Microsoft optical wheel mouse connected to USB.
I have never seen something like this myself. I increased the mouse speed
and now it is somewhat more reliable but not at all yet as it should be.
