Last week a pop-up screen came up saying that there was
information stored on my hard drive that was not
retrievable by me. It included websites I'd visited
(during the lifetime of the computer), things I'd
deleted, histories that had not been erased through
traditional methids. While I didn't fall for purchasing
the softweare they were pitching to remove all of this
stuff, I was sondering if there was a way to do it myself
through the operating system. Can you direct me on how to
proceed? Thanks.

Try "Disk Cleanup" Tool under
Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools
