equation numbering

J

jewfroguy

I'm editing a document which includes equations every so often in
MathType5.0. I have to keep the numbering of these equations
consistent and so came up with a numbering scheme (ex. 2.4.c-1 for the
1st equation in section 2.4.c). I want to make it so that every time I
add another equation, I can basically press enter afterwards and it
will know to create another equation number. Please get back to me if
anyone knows how to do this. Thanks.

The way MathType is currently set up, your only option for using
MathType's automatic numbering scheme is to manually change the
chapter and section numbers whenever you start a new
chapter/section.

After reading this post of mine on the newsgroup, I realized if
someone read that comment without following the thread, it would be
easy to reach an incorrect conclusion. Let me clarify...

MathType *does* let you include chapter and section numbers in your
equation number without setting them manually. You do have to insert
chapter and section breaks, because MathType doesn't know when you
insert a Word chapter or section break. (There's an icon on the
MathType toolbar in Word for inserting MathType chapter/section
breaks.) My statement above specifically related to the numbering
scheme of "jewfroguy", which included a mix of letters, numbers,
periods, and a dash -- like 2.4.c-1. At some point in the future, we
may include automatic advanced numbering schemes such as this in
MathType, but the current version (5.2c for Win/5.1 for Mac) won't do
that.

That's exactly what I'm asking. Reread your question: you wrote, "I can
basically press enter afterwards and it will know to create another equation
number." I wanted to know what you meant by "press enter backwards."

Hmm. Not sure how I read that wrong *twice.* I think my mind is in another
county today!
