Equation in word 2000

I have files with equation created with the equation editor of Word
Up to a few weeks ago everything was fine. But now I do not see the equations on the normal word page
There is a frame, but nothing is visible. However, when applying the "preview" or when printing, the formula
appear correctly. I didn't change any options, and these files are at least one year old. When creating a new equation the same problem appear
Could anyone help me ? I'm working with Windows 9
TIA

On the View tab of the Tools>Options dialog box, make sure that
"Picture placeholders" is not selected and then click OK.
