Epson Stylus Photo 1200

John Vanini

I have an Epson Photo 810 printer, which has a utility that shows,
graphically, the level of the ink in the black and the colour cartridges.

The Epson 1200, however, never had this utility but, sometime ago, I picked
up and installed a piece of third-party software that did just that.

I don't, unfortunately, remember where I got it from and, somehow, seem to
have deleted this software from my computer. Can anyone help me find it
again?

The now, empty software folder is titled ESM2 and the "target" (under
"Properties") identifies it as "Epson Status Monitor 2" but whether this
will help or not I can't say. It would also seem that the program was called
STMMain.exe but I don't want to mislead anyone.

I've entered everything I can think of into Google but nothing comes up that
seems to be what I'm looking for. Hope someone can help!

Regards,

John

You are joking aren't you ???

You tell us it is called Epson Status Monitor, yet you are asking where to
go for a Download.

Go on, take a wild guess !!!!

If you can't work it out from the clue I am about to supply, give your
computer system to the nearest Charity Shop. The clue is in the word Epson.

Sorry Roy, but I'm not really (I hope!!) as silly as I may sound! I had to
laugh when I read your posting! I realised how idiotic what I had said
sounded but I wanted to give as much information as I could not realising
that it lead directly to the Epson website!

However, when I bought Windows XP and the Epson 1200 printer I was surprised
to find that the "Status Monitor" no longer appeared in the utilities
program so I contacted Epson and they said that there was no guarantee that
any status monitors would work with Windows XP (they may have meant just
with the 1200 but I can't remember after all this time), which is why the
printer software didn't include it. My Epson 810 printer status monitor is
stiil working, on a computer with Windows ME - no problem.

However, following what you said, I went to the Epson website and, yes, they
talk about status monitors but not for the 1200 and Windows XP. That's where
the problem seems to lie - Windows XP with an Epson 1200 - they just don't
seem to go together!

That's why I was surprised and pleased (about three years ago) when I found,
on a newsgroup (I don't remember which one!) mention of a status monitor
that would work with these two - I searched for it, found it, installed it
and it did - but sometime, not too long ago, I seem to have removed it
either when up-grading my computer or re-formatting one of its hard drives,
I know I had it on two of my computers with XP but it's vanished off both,
which is a mystery as I had it installed on both plus backup copies of the
software!.

However, I may still be proved wrong regarding XP and the 1200 printer - I
hope so! I shall search the Epson website again and see what I can find - I
may, yet, prove myself an idiot! There is a possibility, I suppose, that
Epson may have come up with an answer and a compatible status monitor. I
shall, again, do an in-depth search of the Internet!

Anyway, thanks for taking the time to answer!

Best regards,

John

Hi.

I see someone has told you about sscg (or whatever). That does work and
also does a few things which Epson Status Monitor does not do. However it
can sometimes stop Print jobs getting to the printer, just after it has been
used to clean heads. Work round is to exit sscg, power off the printer and
then back on.

However I use XP and Status Monitor does work with my 1290. In olden times
it also used to work wth my 700 which is just the A4 version of your 1200 (I
think), on Win 98 SE.

Have a look at Epson Australia, they seem to have more downloads than Europe
or USA.

Sorry about giving you a hard time, but you do need to be careful on these
groups. I at least am polite, most of the time.

No problem, Roy,

I realised when I read what I had said how stupid it must have sounded!

I'm in several groups and I get irritated when questions are asked where the
answer could easily be found via Google or such-like and there has been no
obvious attempt to try.

I don't know why there's a problem with XP but there is a very large amount
of correspondence on the Internet from people who seem to have the same
problem as I have - hence my question!

Yes, "frederick" has given me what may be the answer. Thanks for your
input - I'll be careful!

Best regards,

John

Hi Frederick,

I've been to the website and, while it's not the same program as I had
before, it may well do the job. I'd actually been to this site before I
posted the question to the group but because it so obviously wasn't the same
program I kept searching until I decided, finally and reluctantly, to give
up!

The one I used to have showed the ink levels in exactly the same way,
graphically, as does the software for my Epson 810 printer, which uses
Windows ME as the OS - in other words, it showed a sectional view through
the cartridge with the levels indicated in colour - and I liked that; it was
simple and I'm, if I'm anything at all, a simple soul!

However, I'll download this one and try it - but I'll, also, keep looking!

Thanks for your reply; I'm very grateful!

Best regards,

John

Your 1200 should have come with this software included.

Epson has made different drivers over the years, some had the driver and
status monitor in one file, and others offer each as a separate file.

All of Epson's drivers and ink monitors are available on the Epson US
website (and perhaps other countries as well) under the drivers and
support menus. If you are using a Windows machine, this is the file you
need to download:

Status Monitor 2 v2.5bE
Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows NT 4.0, Windows Me, Windows 98, Windows 95
epson10675.exe - 12.5MB - posted on 03/04/03

This file contains Epson Status Monitor 2 v2.5bE for Windows 95, 98,
XP, 2000 (Service Pack 2 or later) and NT 4.0 (Service Pack 6 or later),
.. This file is used to monitor certain Epson printer's status over
different interfaces. Please view the included "Readme.txt" document to
determine if this product will work with your Epson printer.

The posting which I just sent provides the URL for your 1200 status
monitor. Epson describes it as being functional with numerous Windows
OS, including XP.

It seems to me, you were the ONLY person to give this person a hard
time. Therefore, the only people he needs to be careful of in "these
groups" are YOU!

It wasn't all that polite.
