Epson Stylus Fix Needed

Hello,
I have an Epson Stylus with 3 color cartridges & 1 black &
white. Epson rigged this
printer to require that the cartridges be replaced by their own every
few weeks even if they were still full, or the printer would not work
at all. A class action law suit was filed & won ($45), but I have not
received any of this.

So, does any one know of a way around this? Perhaps some kind of
software fix? I have e-mailed Epson & of course received no response.
I really need this printer to work, it has been a great
inconvenience, & yes it is our of warranty.

BTW I will never purchase another Epson product again!

You have several options.

1) you can buy refillable cartridges which have a permanent ink chip
that resets each time the printer is started.

2) You can buy an cartridge chip resetter for $5-$15 on places like ebay
(make sure you buy the one for your model) which can reset the cartridge
to full, but you will need to refill the cartridges with ink or the
heads will dry out and cog

3) You can buy 3rd party cartridges which cost less, or have a refilling
service refill your cartridges with ink for you

4) You can download a free software package which offers differing
support dependent upon the printer model. Read up on the features
available for your printer.

5) I understand that the payments from the class action should be
distributed shortly to those in the US who applied to be part of the class

You had this problem a year ago when you were in a panic about
printing your tax returns, and you were given good relevant advice in
this NG.

That must have been some 1 else because it was working fine for that
last year, in other words the warranty had not expired yet.

Very Bad Option - Can ruin the printer

Not a good idea

Very Bad you do not know what you are getting

Wow. I didn't know that happened. Epson sucks! Why did you do that,
Epson? That's about as mean as it gets.

$45 just isn't enough compensation.

What was the model number of that printer? I want to Google for some
stories.

Thanks,

Nevermind. Just found it.

Where have I been? Must have had my head seriously deep up my *ss. I've
got 4 of these dam*ed things for which I could have gotten reimbursement
but the deadline for filing was Nov 2006 according to that web site!!!

I guess I didn't encounter the problem because I've only used one set of
OEM Epson cartridges in my life and that was back when I had an old SP750.
My sister's got it now and it still works.

However, it says that if you had registered the printer at Epson, you
should get the money automatically. Well? 3 of my 4 Epson printers were
purchased at the Epson store online. Dagnabbit !! That should mean
they're automatically registered!!!

All totaled I've got 4 of these babies that I should have claimed!

Why doesn't somebody tell me these things? I've been away from these NG's
too long!!

I brought this matter up several times on several newsgroups (including
this one), and it was in the first paragraph of my Epson Cleaning manual
for the past year.

If the document on their settlement website indicates that you would be
automatically informed with registration, you may wish to pursue that
with either Epson of the legal firm that filed the class action and you
may still be able to collect something.

Just to clarify one aspect... although Epson agreed to pay this class
action settlement, they didn't "lose" per say, because it never went to
court. Epson, it would seem, decided it was cheaper to pay it than
fight it.

This class action was only valid in the US bay the way. I'm still
waiting for someone to file in Canada...
