Epson Stylus C64 USB Not working

I have an epson stylus c64 printer which is been used on windows 98
first edition, and apart from once yesterday windows doesnt detect the
device. I have tried everything phoned epson tech support and nothing
seems to work and it looks like they have now given.

My usb cable and ports are fine because i have tried the cable with
other devices of mine and also using both usb ports on the computer
also work. Today i took the computer to an epson and printer express
center (recommend by epson tech support) and it worked fine with usb
on his windows xp system but not on mine. I have tried everything.

Last night i tried using windows add/remove hardware and right at the
end after scanning the system it came up with the follwing message

'Device Installer Error'

'setup cannot load the installer(epusbci.dll) for the epson usb
printer hardware being installed contact your hardware vendor'

which i have done but because it worked at the shop using usb there is
nothing wrong with the printer and they told me to contact my pc
manufacturer, but i don't want to go down that road as each vendor
will be blaming the other.

Does anyone know what could be wrong and what can i do to sort this
problem out. I have to point out the printer works fine using the
parallel connection but as from time to time i do photocopying i would
like my scanner using the parallel port and the printer using usb.

Thanks in advance

Something that you can try, works with stylus 760, remove printer software
through add/remove, access install CD and double click epusbun.exe. Follow
on screen intructions.
Good luck.
