I have an epson stylus c40 plus which is about 2 years old and
originally the print quality was excellent but recently their is a lot
of horizontal banding in the print outs. I have performed a nozzle
check, head cleaning check and print head allignment check and all were
fine. I tried to resolve this on the epson website but the support
was pretty poor. Has anyone got any ideas on how to resolve this?
thank you

This is usually the well known and documented build up of resin residue and
crud from paper waste (dust) and dye based ink . The very best way is to
charge a spare empty with Windolene (greenish) window cleaner or a mild
ammonia solution which acts as a solvent for dye based inks. You then clean
from within the Peizo head and dissolve waste out. Print a few windy pages
and as the ink fades you know the cleaner is getting to the parts that
matter. Sometimes a few drops on the parking pads will accomplish this. No
disassembly is necessary. Amongst others JetTec also do a flush cleaning
fluid free with the latest specialist ink kits.

I have a similar problem with my c70 which uses chipped cartridges. I have
purchased three
colour cleaning cartridges, so is it it ok to remove the colour cartridges
do the the cleaning
process and then return the colour cartridges?
I am a bit worried in case the printer want accept the partly used
cartridges again!

It's not a problem putting the used cartridges back in the printer since
they have the chips on them.

One of the reasons that Epson give - in justification of their strange
allegiance to chips - is that they may be removed and reinserted, whilst
retaining the usage data. So you may complete a big run and then reinsert
part used cartridges for other less quantity dependant work.

I dont fully understand what you mean by some of the jargon. What do
you mean by charge, clean from within the PEIZO head, windy pages and
parking pads? thanks for your help.
